This year has been, thus far, one of the wettest since Noah started looking for gopher wood and pitch, but one upside is that everywhere – and I do mean everywhere – is outstandingly green and equally pleasant. Summer is by and large my third favourite season, ahead of winter, behind spring, but this year it’s looking set fair to be pretty damn good, at least for someone like me who does sunshine but not blazing heat. That the local council seem to have eased off cutting the grass, well, pretty much everywhere isn’t hurting at all, flowers and insects in considerable profusion. The lush green will of course fade as the summer wears on but just now, it’s all most fetching. It’s England, my England, and I love it unreservedly.
